About the Centre

The Ontario Injury Prevention Resource Centre (OIPRC), housed at SMARTRISK Foundation, is a resource centre of Public Health Ontario in the Health Promotion, Chronic Disease and Injury Prevention Department.

The OIPRC has several objectives:

  • To increase the knowledge, skill, and confidence of injury prevention practitioners in the planning, implementation and evaluation of injury prevention initiatives in Ontario.
  • To provide relevant and timely training for practitioners equitably across the province, to meet the needs of the priority populations identified.
  • To provide communication, information and knowledge exchange services.
  • To provide customized data information and assistance, using the most current information available.
  • To engage key stakeholders to advance injury prevention and increase clients' awareness, understanding and access to appropriate injury prevention services and resources.

IP Resource Centre Staff

Dr. Phil Groff, SMARTRISK President and CEO. Formerly Director of Research and Evaluation at SMARTRISK, Phil is now responsible for overseeing all of SMARTRISK's operations, including the OIPRC.

Linda Yenssen OIPRC Manager, coordinates the networking and consultation activities of the resource centre, as well as providing the liaison between the resource centre and many of our primary stakeholders. She also coordinates the development of the resource centre's website and other electronic and print content in the centre's collection.

Pam Farmer, SMARTRISK’s Manager of Research and Evaluation, coordinates evaluation and research activities related to the OIPRC, including strategic and operational planning, project oversight and management and providing a liaison between the OIPRC and the broader practitioner community.

Claude Meurehg, Health Promotion Coordinator, promotes and arranges logistics for sessions of the Canadian Injury Prevention Curriculum and the Canadian Falls Prevention Curriculum. Claude also provides secretariat support for the public health managers in Ontario and assists with French language services at the centre.

Jayne Morrish, Research Associate, provides research and evaluation support for internal staff, and liaises with members of the external research community and other injury prevention stakeholders. She organizes the Ontario Injury Prevention Forum day.

Other members of the SMARTRISK team also contribute to the success of the resource centre including, but not limited to, the information technology support provided by Michael Gemar and Kathy Blair’s work writing and editing for the Resource Centre.
