CIPSPC releases conference program
The preliminary program for the Canadian Injury Prevention and Safety Promotion Conference is now available online, offering a wide variety of plenary and concurrent sessions, entertainment and satellite sessions. Early registration – with savings of $100 until Sept. 15 – is underway for the Nov. 11-13 conference to be held in Toronto.
Highlights include:
- opening Aboriginal ceremonies and a marking of Remembrance Day, featuring veterans making up a colour guard, complete with bagpipes
- keynote speakers including Barbara Turnbull, who first came to public notice after she was shot and left paralyzed during a convenience store robbery
- sessions dealing with such topics as the aftermath of an incident of violence or suicide, a play entitled The Crime and the Injury, injury prevention approaches for those working with First Nations communities, child and youth injuries, older drivers, helmet safety, building the evidence and dozens more
- a gala dinner Saturday night at the newly renovated Atlantis Pavilion at Ontario Place, offering panoramic views of the Toronto skyline and waterfront
- satellite sessions, including the two-day Canadian Injury Prevention and Control Curriculum, the Concussion Road Show and a number of others.
About the conference
The overall theme for the conference is Evidence, Action, Innovation: Moving to End Injury, Violence and Suicide in Canada.
The conference is presented by Safe Communities Canada, Safe Kids Canada, SMARTRISK and ThinkFirst Canada.
