This years’ topic will be The 2nd annual OIPRC Injury Prevention Forum will take place on March 8th and 9th, 2011 at the Novotel-North York Hotel in Toronto.
This years’ topic will be “Preventing Risk and Promoting Resiliency in Adolescence”
Keynote speakers will include:
• Jim Conway , Speaker & Trainer from The Search Institute; importance of promoting resiliency and positive youth development in adolescence
• Chloe Hamza , Research Chair of the Niagara Suicide Prevention Coalition
• Sheila Hansen, Thunder Bay Youth Suicide Prevention Task Force
• Dr. Susan Forbes & Dr. Lori Livingston – Play It Cool program & research group speaking to Sports and Recreational Injuries
• Kerri Richards, Toronto Public Health and Susan Shepherd, Toronto Drug Strategy Secretariat
• Various other researchers and programmers specializing in preventing adolescent injuries and/or promoting resiliency in adolescence
Who: Public health practitioners, LHIN members, researchers, and health promoters interested risk reduction, injury prevention & facilitating increased resiliency among adolescents
What: A day long forum focusing on current research and programming focusing on preventing adolescent injuries/risks and promoting resiliency in adolescence.
Learn:
• Importance of increasing assets in adolescents and how this relates to positive outcomes and reduction in risks & injuries
• Current research and programming on adolescent suicide and sports & recreation injuries.
• Incorporating resiliency into prevention and programming frameworks. Including the challenges and successes experienced by other public health programmers focusing on this.
• Current work being done on promoting resiliency and positive youth development including the importance of activity engagement as a facilitator of resiliency and positive outcomes for youth.
