Culture Counts in road safety

The article below on a car seat initiative directed towards newcomers was contributed by the committee, Safety Drives Us, which focuses on road safety initiatives for newcomers in Halton, Peel and Hamilton. The committee’s work has been recognized widely, including being featured in a child safety newsletter based out of France and on the Safe Kids Canada website.

The committee was also invited to speak at the International Conference on Child Safety in Cars in Munich. An interesting feature of this car seat initiative is that it involved settlement workers as peer partners, who were able not only to speak their clients’ languages but who could also provide cultural insights.
