Professor Solomon is currently on the Faculty of Law at the University of Western Ontario and is the National Director of Legal Policy for Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) Canada. He has been involved in research and teaching on substance abuse policy, and tort, health care and criminal law for over 35 years. He has served as a consultant to Health and Welfare Canada, the Law Reform Commission of Canada, the Canadian Centre on Substance Abuse, and the Commonwealth of Australia Health Department.
Professor Solomon has travelled throughout Canada and Australia presenting seminars in his fields of expertise. One of his major areas of concern has been the civil liability for alcohol-related injuries. He has designed server and manager intervention programs for universities, community colleges, municipalities, the hospitality and insurance industries, and service clubs. Professor Solomon has also served as a consultant to numerous law firms engaged in alcohol-related civil litigation.

The session will begin by addressing some common myths about alcohol-related civil liability in Ontario. We will then discuss the circumstances in which individuals can be held civilly liable as alcohol providers, occupiers and social hosts. The discussion will then turn to strategies to minimize alcohol-related mishaps and the civil suits that they generate.
